anne

E. Anne Desjardins is the co-founder and director of the Cache Valley Learning Center.  Anne received her Bachelor’s degree from Antioch University in Seattle, Washington and her Master’s degree in Special Education from the University of Washington.  She has been an educator for thirty-three years, integrating Applied Behavior Analysis, Precision Teaching and Direct Instruction.  She has taught a wide range of learners; including those with severe disabilities, mild disabilities as well as typically developing and gifted learners.  Her students have ranged in age from pre-school to adult.  She frequently conducts trainings in Direct Instruction and for many years has trained at the national Direct Instruction conference in Eugene, Oregon.  She is a member of the Association for Direct Instruction and the Standard Celeration Society. 

She lives in Logan, Utah with her husband Timothy Slocum, Professor of Special Education at Utah State University.  She has two sons, David and Matthew.  David is a computer programmer in Los Angeles and Matthew is a senior at Logan High School.




PENNY TRINCA



Brooke Perry graduated from Utah State University in 2006 with a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education and teaching license.  She taught preschool at Bear River Head Start for one year before joining the faculty at Cache Valley Learning Center as the kindergarten/first grade teacher.  She enjoys watching her students learn and delights in seeing a child transform from a nonreader to a reader.  In addition to teaching the kindergarten/first grade class, Brooke is the head teacher in the Cache Valley Learning Center Summer Camp. 

Brooke lives in Logan with her husband and step-daughter.  Her hobbies include family history, cross-stitching and outdoor activities such as fishing and camping.





MrsButtars

Teresa Buttars graduated from Utah State University in 1996 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and teaching certification.  Teresa has taught at Cache Valley Learning Center for twelve years.  She is known as a teacher who can “do it all”, whether she is organizing a biography fair, revising the school’s character education curriculum, or working with a reluctant reader.  Year after year, her students perform above grade level in reading and mathematics. 

Teresa and her husband Dave live in Smithfield with their four daughters.  She enjoys reading, singing, traveling and spending time with her family.




MrsHaggerty

Irene Haggerty taught pre-school for nine years before attending Utah State University.  She graduated with a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education in 2003.  She has taught fourth and fifth grade at Cache Valley Learning Center since 2003.  Irene believes students are to be respected and recognized for having unique abilities.  She believes every student can obtain success and confidence with guidance and hard work. 

Born in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, she has also lived in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.  Irene is married with two daughters, River and Maeve.  She likes to read, hike, travel, camp and go on rollercoasters.




bill

Bill Masslich holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Colorado State University in Wildlife Biology, a Bachelor of Science degree from Utah State University in Biology Education and a Master of Science degree from Brigham Young University.  He is in his twelfth year of teaching science and mathematics at Cache Valley Learning Center.  He helped write and implement a watershed education program entitled, “A River Runs Through Us: Bear River Watershed Education Project. 

Bill is well known for his strong belief in the importance of field experience in teaching science.  Annually he takes kindergarten through third grade students to the Bear River Bird refuge, rafts with the fourth/fifth grade students and organizes a week-long science trip for middle school students.  He is active in environmental education with local organizations such as Stokes Nature Center and Bridgerland Audubon Society. 

Bill and his wife, Penny Trinca, live in Nibley, Utah with their two sons, Zane and Jake.  They operate an organic farm in their “spare time”.

Cade Bassett teaches Spanish and Social Studies at Cache Valley Learning Center.  He enjoys learning and teaching about world cultures and languages.  Spanish is Cade’s third foreign language, but it won’t be his last.  He learned French and Tahitian while living in French Polynesia.  He continued his foreign language studies (French and Spanish) while working at a bank in Luxemborg City, Luxemborg and at Colorado State University.  He graduated Cum Laude from CSU with a major in French, minor in Spanish and his teacher licensure.  He then came to Utah State University to complete a Masters of Second Language Teaching degree (MSLT) with an emphasis on teaching English as a second language. 

Cade believes that knowledge of a foreign language will give our students an incredible edge in tomorrow’s work force and will promote a cross-cultural compassion and personal joy.  His overall goal as a teacher is to provide each student with a solid knowledge of Spanish and instill the desire and capacity for life-long foreign language study. 

Cade lives in Hyrum, Utah with his wife Jennie and their two children, Mahayla and Weston.




Marianne

Marianne Young received her Bachelor’s degree and teaching certification from Utah State University, with a major in English and a minor in Psychology.  She was named Outstanding Student Teacher of the Year in 2002.  After graduating, Marianne taught English for five years in the Logan City School District.  She taught for one year at Logan High South Campus and four years at Logan High School.  In addition to teaching English, Marianne was the debate coach at Logan High.   

Marianne joined the faculty at Cache Valley Learning Center in 2007.  She teaches English and social studies in the middle school.  In addition to her love of teaching, Marianne is an avid runner, completing fourteen marathons.  She and her husband Greg live in Nibley, Utah.   




Adde

Adee Reed graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelors of Science in Special Education and a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Theatre Education.  She teaches mathematics, language arts and special education at CVLC.  She also directs the CVLC Drama Club. This is her third year of teaching, but first year at CLVC.  

Adee enjoys spending time with her family, eating popcorn especially while watching movies, swimming, boating and eating raspberry shakes at Bear Lake.  She is fond of the outdoors and enjoys rock climbing, backpacking, snowshoeing, and jogging.  




Katria

Katria Foster is the Art Specialist, teaching students in kindergarten through eighth grade.  Katria has been teaching at Cache Valley Learning Center since 2006. 

She completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and a Bachelor of Art degree in Art Education at the University of Idaho in 2006.  During her tenure at University of Idaho, Katria worked in the art field completing an internship at Mountain View High School and the Christine Donnell School of the Arts in Boise, Idaho.  At Mountain View High School she taught photography, design and advanced placement art classes.  At the Christine Donnell School of the Arts, she taught students in kindergarten through sixth grade.  She was a docent at the Pritchard Art Gallery in Boise, Idaho and a guest artist at Leana Whitmore Art Day in Moscow, Idaho.  Since 2002, her work has been exhibited in five art shows at the University of Idaho. 

Katria lives in Logan with her husband Scott who is a graduate student in the art department at Utah State University.




Betz

Elizabeth C. Judd (Betz) graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications.  She was an aquatics director, ski instructor and racing coach for two years before returning to Utah State University to complete a Master of Science in Health and Recreation.  While at USU, she ran the Outdoor Recreation Center and was manager of the Nelson Field House.  Betz has been teaching physical education at Cache Valley Learning Center since 1996.  She loves working with the students and the challenge of finding some sport or activity each student will enjoy.  She hopes they will take their acquired skill and knowledge with them and continue to be active for the rest of their lives. 

Betz and her husband Marty live in Providence, Utah with their three daughters and their dog, Ginger.
